It’s so easy to get caught up in all the pursuits of life and slowly drift away from what you were really pursuing in the first place. Throughout all of the chaos, opportunities, relationships, doubts, and disappointments it can be easy to forget your vision over time. I thought it’d never happen to me. I told myself that I would never get caught up in money and business and all the less important things of life. Well, I think it happens to everyone at some point. You start thinking about paying rent, getting a new car, going out on dates, and all those things. Then that slowly becomes our new goal over time – to be able to make enough to live comfortably.
First off, money is not bad. When you start serving money and possessions is when you get into trouble. Money is not the topic I want to speak about though. But it is what many people struggle with in life – how much to spend, give generously, and save, etc.
I want to talk about forgetting my first love.
“But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first…” (Rev. 2:4)
Jesus was talking to the Church in Ephesus. They were doing so many things right and were enduring through persecution. But Jesus told them they had abandoned the love they had at first for him.
God really touched my heart and showed me that I was slowly drifting away from the vision that I had for my life when I first fell in love with Him. I would pray all the time that I would never lose my passion for pursuing Him and sharing His love with the world. When we’re in the moments of experiencing and feeling His presence it’s impossible to imagine losing that. But over time we grow dull if we aren’t in constant conversation with Him. I can say that there is nothing in this world that is more satisfying than God Himself. There is no relationship, no amount of money, no amount of followers and admirers, no pleasure that is better. He created all those things. I am overflowing with thankfulness for His faithfulness to me. Cause we aren’t going to do it right. It’s because of His love that he draws us back to Him.
He draws me back to the highest vision that He’s placed in my heart to love Him and love other people the best that I can while I’m here on earth and have a choice to love through the pain and struggles and disappointments. Don’t let anyone talk you out of it.
